Conference
Overview
The seventh annual Michigan
Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) conference will feature presentations
from volunteers from across the state of Michigan. We will celebrate
the amazing work that is being done by the MiCorps volunteers and
take a closer look at some of the current and anticipated threats
to Michigan's freshwater, as well as native species and invasive
species monitoring. In addition, the conference will include presentations
and training from regional experts, and Michigan DEQ, DNR, and MiCorps
staff. Optional training for volunteers will take place on Monday,
October 24th (see below), which is free of charge. The full conference
program will take place on Tuesday, October 25th.
Who Should Attend
The conference
is intended for volunteer monitoring program leaders, citizen volunteers,
water resource professionals, and others interested in the health
and protection of Michigan's rivers, lakes and streams.
Special
Training for Volunteer Monitors
During the afternoon
of Monday, October 24th, MiCorps will offer two free training workshops
for volunteer monitors. Participants may attend either "Mussel
Biology, Identification, and Volunteer Opportunities" or "Clean
Boats, Clean Waters: Taking Action to Reduce the Spread of Aquatic
Invasive Species." See the conference
program for additional details or contact Dr. Paul Steen
(psteen@hrwc.org or 734-769-5123).
Please note that you
may register for the free training sessions only, without attending
the full conference. However, advanced registration is required.
Space is limited, so visit the online
registration page to sign up, or contact Laura Kaminski at laurak@glc.org
or 734-971-9135 for more information.
