Macroinvertebrate Identification Course

North
Central Michigan College, Petoskey, MI
Tip
of the Mitt Watershed Council's Kevin Cronk will be teaching an
aquatic macroinvertebrate identification course this winter at
North Central Michigan College (BIO 297: Special Topics in Biology).
Students will be taught to identify most aquatic insects, crustaceans
and other macroinvertebrates found in Northern Michigan lakes
and streams to the family level (exceptions include groups like
oligochaets = aquatic worms). Course consists of weekly lectures
and lab ID sessions, biweekly cumulative ID quizzes, four outdoor
field trips for collecting specimens, and developing family-level
collections.

Tuition fees vary depending
on residency ($72 - $153 per credit hour): www.ncmich.edu/pay4college/calcul.asp.
An additional course fee of $35 will cover
the cost of field equipment, ethanol for specimen preservation,
