Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP) 2010 Enrollment

Enrollment for the 2010 spring/summer monitoring season is now open.

To collect quality data on Michigan 's inland lakes, Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) and Michigan Lake and Stream Associations, Inc. (MLSA) have partnered to implement the Cooperative Lakes Monitoring Program (CLMP). Michigan State University's Department of Fisheries and Wildlife supports the partnership with technical assistance.

2010 Program Information

Before enrolling for the CLMP, please be aware of the following:

  • All CLMP partners and participating volunteer samplers should be committed to a quality program, which produces quality data. Therefore, any new lake communities or volunteer samplers joining the CLMP need to commit to taking the necessary training and performing all monitoring activities exactly as outlined in the provided monitoring procedures.
  • Each volunteer monitor must demonstrate that they can collect consistent quality data before they can participate in the more complicated monitoring program. Consequently, first year lake communities and volunteer monitors may only register for the Secchi Disk Transparency, Spring Total Phosphorus and Summer Total Phosphorus and Exotic Aquatic Plant Watch monitoring programs. After they have demonstrated a proficiency in these programs in following years they may register for chlorophyll, dissolved oxygen/temperature, aquatic plant mapping and any possible pilot program. They must have experience in and be enrolled in the Secchi disk transparency, total phosphorus, and chlorophyll monitoring program to register for the dissolved oxygen/temperature or aquatic plant mapping program.
  • The CLMP is open to all lake associations, corporations and individuals. Membership in MLSA is not required to participate in the program.
  • Except for Secchi disk transparency, all monitoring programs have a limited enrollment because of available equipment or laboratory capacity. Register early to insure your lake community's participation in the monitoring projects in which you are interested.

  • Associations or individuals that have paid enrollment fees for the CLMP parameters may notify Michigan Lake & Stream Associations (ML&SA) by April 1, 2010 - prior to the sampling season - if they cannot carry out the program they have signed up for, and they may request a refund or carry-over of the enrollment fees. Please review the CLMP Enrollment Fees Refund and Carry Over Policy.
  • To learn more about each of the monitoring programs, please visit the CLMP Documents web page. If you would like more information about any of the monitoring programs you may also contact Jean Roth at (989) 257-3715 or jroth@mlswa.org.

The MiCorps partners welcome your lake community to the CLMP volunteer lake monitoring program. We are confident that participation in the program will provide your lake community with quality data for your lake management program and projects.

2010 CLMP Participants

A waiver MUST be filled out and submitted to MLSA BEFORE CLMP testing begins. You may not begin sampling unless each sampler has submitted a waiver form.
